Fun w Graphic 45: Project #3……… File Folder Travelers Notebook…….. Digital Tutorial Now Available!

Hello Happy Crafters!

I’m excited to announce that the digital tutorial for Project #3 in my Fun with Graphic 45 Series is now available in my Etsy shop!

This is the File Folder Travelers Notebook using Graphic 45’s lovely Fairie Dust collection.

Here’s the walk-through video on my YouTube channel. Then read on for more info on the project.

More info on this Travelers Notebook:

Last fall I introduced my 5.5” x 7.5” Chunky Traveler’s Notebook, featuring fold out cardstock covers and a Kraft-Tex spine. It was a big hit and the tutorial is still available in my Etsy shop. Since then, I’ve been getting tons of requests to design a Standard 4.5” x 8.75” Midori-sized Traveler’s Notebook, that would hold “Standard” size booklets & inserts.

I wanted to keep the same, functional, multi-use fold out covers, and the four-strap spine. But as my tutorials gained more and more global fans, finding the Kraft-tex I used for the spine in the first TN has been an issue for some crafters.

I played with a number of different products and was delighted with how easy it was to work with backed canvas. It does make the spine a bit stiffer, giving it almost a notebook feel, but it’s still fully flexible and will soften with use.

There are numerous types that you can use (and numerous vendors who sell it), and those will be discussed in the tutorial and walk-through video, which will be available early next month.

Kraft-Tex or Canvas: And yes, you can use the canvas for the spine with the first Chunky Traveler’s Notebook tutorial as well – simply swap out the Kraft-Tex for the canvas used in this project. And vice versa- you can use Kraft-Tex with this project if you prefer it!

Even more fun, as I’ve been playing with the file folders in my File Folder Mini monthly series, I’ve really been enjoying the durability and strength they lend to a project, and by using the lightweight folders, they don’t add unnecessary bulk. I had a brainstorm to pair the folders with the canvas, and voila! My version of a “Standard” size Midori-style traveler’s notebook was born.

Almost! I don’t know about you, but I love to stuff my planners and notebooks full of goodies. That’s why I made my first version of the Traveler’s Notebook a Chunky Style. Well, I’m happy to announce that this version is a Chunky Style, too! (And if you don’t want chunky, simple! You just trim down the canvas spine to the size you want. (Just make sure it’s wide enough to handle the four-cord style weave.)

The covers are sized slightly wider than the 4.25″ Standard Midori Notebook so you can add tabs to your Inserts. The tutorial & kit instructions show you how to make them! And the tabs won’t get all bent up with the elastic strap.

For this project, you have a fold- out front and back cover, that feature a slant pocket on the front of the fold-out, a triple-decker pocket on the inside of the flap, and a long pocket on the inside front and back covers to hold even more of your notes, receipts, a checkbook, whatever you need! The front and back cover, and the pockets, are all constructed from file folders.

But wait! There’s more!

This project also comes with instructions on how to make and/or decorate four Inserts! You will learn how to make one Double-Pocket Insert, one plain paper Notebook Insert, and one grid paper Notebook Insert.

The final insert is a pre-made calendar insert. These “Standard” size Calendar Notebook Inserts are available from many vendors. The Calendar Notebook Insert used in the sample is the Michael’s Recollections brand. You can also simply make another of any of the first three Inserts from the tutorial as your 4th Insert.

You can also purchase any of the other style Inserts as well, but I wanted you to learn to make your own, so you’ll always have a refill replacements handy!

Alternate Papers for Inserts! You can use a variety of papers to make your own Notebook Inserts. Do you like to art journal? Make a Notebook Insert following the instructions and simply use any mixed media paper that suits your style. So many possibilities!

Prefer to use your own stash? Not a problem. The tutorial gives you all the sizes of both the foundation mats used to assemble the notebook, and the sizes of all the decor mats used to decorate. Simply substitute your own paper and use the mat sizes in the Cutting Guide to create your own look.

The digital tutorial for this project IS available now in my Etsy Shop!

File Folder Mini #2: Welcome Home!

Hello Happy Crafters!

I’m so excited to share with you the next in my monthly File Folder Mini Series!

Introducing the File Folder Mini #2: Welcome Home project, using Carta Bellas pretty Welcome Home collection! I mentioned last time that each FFM will be unique and this month we are going in a completely different direction. (I love it and hope you do, too!) This File Folder Mini has the exact same cover dimensions as before – that part will remain the same every month – but wait till you see what’s inside!

FILE FOLDER MINI #2: WELCOME HOME

This month we’re using black file folders and the lush Carta Bella paper (so thick, and I love the textured finish!) There weren’t any real solid patterns in this collection and the project needed a punch of solid color, so we’re also using Graphic 45’s Seasons Patterns & Solids. They were the perfect match!

Each side is a separate unit, with secret goodies behind their closed doors. (My favorite kind!) I designed this to be a “memory keeper” for holding all sorts of photos, journaling, and memorabilia.

Open the “policy envelope flaps” (with the cute beaded string-tie!) on the left side of this File Folder Mini and reveal a set of accordion pockets that expand out like a pretty little set of file folders. Each pocket can hold any number of tags and folders. As you can see, I took full advantage of that! (And they will hold even more!)

But wait, there’s more!

The compartment on the right has a cute photo folder on top…but it’s what’s underneath that makes it really fun!

Twin Mini Drawers!

You will learn how to make the entire drawer unit and the fun photo-fold-outs tucked inside each one. Each drawer has a little charm drawer pull, too! If you want to tuck other goodies in the drawers, the photo-fold-outs will fit into the accordion pockets on the left side.

Versatile and fun, this File Folder Mini has great ideas you can “scrap-lift” to use in other projects!

File Folder Mini #2: Welcome Home Digital Tutorial: Yes! This File Folder Mini project will also be available as a digital tutorial in my MiniBooksRMe Etsy shop.

  • The digital download will be available starting on March 15th.
  • If you’re following my blog at minibooksrme.com or if you’ve favorited my shop at www.etsy.com/shop/MiniBooksRMe you’ll get an email letting you know it’s been listed.

FULL PROJECT KITS:

I do offer a limited quantity of full project kits. These will not be in my Etsy shop due to the limited availability.  My Etsy shop only carries the digital tutorials. Project kits are available exclusively via my newsletter.

What comes with a Full Project Kit? Below is a sample.  The contents listed show what comes with the File Folder Mini #2 kit.

Spring into Easter Taylored Expressions Fun Pack Project Kit!

Hello Happy Crafters!

So happy to be sharing my latest project kit with you today. Taylored Expressions has done it again with all the holiday cuteness.

The tag-pocket die is an instant favorite and that little basket die is just too cute! (And both are the perfect size for gift cards!) So easy to assemble, too. Then I picked up We R Memory Keeper’s 1-2-3 Punch Board (for making boxes, envelopes, and bows) and where has that been all my life?  Add in some sunshine-filled, hippity-hoppity cute cards and envelopes, and this is the perfect Fun Pack Kit as we get ready for spring and the Easter bunny’s upcoming visit!

As I did with the Valentine’s Kit, I wanted this Fun Pack of goodies to celebrate the coming spring and the Easter holiday with cards and treat boxes that are perfect for the kidlets, your besties, co-workers, teachers, grandparents, siblings…pretty much anyone who could use a smile and a happy hello!

Check out these fun treat boxes made with WRMK 1-2-3 Punch Board! Both boxes come pre-cut & scored for you. All you have to do is fold and attach, then decorate with TE’s adorable critters, and you’ve got instant cuteness in a box!

The larger box is 3 ¼” x 3 ¼” x 2 ½” and the smaller is a 2 ½” square. Tuck in some Easter grass and add in some sweet treats, or other fun surprises like movie tickets, friendship bracelets, gift cards, a personal note…or all of the above! The possibilities are many. (Gift cards will fit in the larger box.)

But wait, there’s more!

In addition to the two treat boxes, the cute chick tag pocket, and the Easter basket, your kit also comes with five cards & an envelope for each!

I love her new set of wee critter cars, and the roadway die is so much fun to use! You’ll notice the bunny dies showing up a few times in this Fun Pack, each one with a different expression. I love TE’s stamp sets that come with an array of wee face stamps. It’s like having a whole new stamp with each adorable expression.

And, of course, we couldn’t say hello to spring without a visit from TE’s hilarious and always adorable Grumplings. I also loved getting to play with her fabulous banner die cut set (eight sizes in one die pack!) and her little speech bubble dies.

Taylor makes wonderful envelope décor stamps, so every envelope has a fun stamped goodie on it as well.

BONUS GOODIE! Each kit also comes with my little Easter giftie to you. You’ll notice the puffy clouds and cheery sunshine dies used on several of the cards. You’ll get that Little Bits die set to keep as a little present from me to you!

KIT CONTENTS: (Everything shown above + the TE Sun & Clouds Die!)

  • 5 Cards pre-cut, scored and folded
  • 5 Envelopes (Coordinates to the sizes of cards.)
  • All Grumplings & Critters pre-stamped on heavyweight cardstock & die cut
  • All décor mats pre-cut & tucked inside each card & envelope for easy decorating.
  • All sentiments pre-stamped on separate mats (so you can swap out for other sentiments if desired.)
  • All 5 cards are blank inside. The Kraft cards have white cardstock liners.
  • 2 Treat Boxes: One is 3 ¼” x 3 ¼” x 2 ½” and one is 2 ½” square. Pre-cut and scored.
  • 1 Tag Pocket: Pre-cut, pre-scored, with all décor items shown
  • 1 Treat Basket: Pre-cut, pre-scored, with all décor items shown
  • All stamped items are stamped with ink for Copic/solvent-based markers as shown on the samples. However, I am happy to stamp with ink for water-based markers. Please request when ordering. (Either ink works for colored pencils.)

For info on how to order a kit of adorable cuteness for your very own, drop me an email to donna@minibooksrme.com and I’ll send you the most recent newsletter with all the details. (You can even order Add-Ons to get multiples of any item shown above.) Perfect way to get a head start on those little notes and treats for teachers, friends, family…and maybe a cute chick tag pocket for yourself. I’m not saying I have mine sitting on my desk where he can bring me smiles all day long…but maybe I do. 🙂

As always, if you have any questions, you can leave a comment below or drop an email to me directly at donna@minibooksrme.com
